I am a writer, actor, singer and teacher. I have performed solo work in the San Francisco Bay Area,
along the West Coast and around the country for over ten years. I study voice with Lee Strawn.I have been a featured solo artist in Cultural Odysseys African-American Performance Art Festival, Afro Solo, Brava Theatres Taking Shape and Solo Mio. My work has been critically acclaimed in the San Francisco Examiner, the San Jose Mercury News and the Chicago Reader, among other publications. I was a Robert Friersen Playwrighting Fellow at the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre in San Francisco in 1992, where my plays INDIGO LADY and ESSAYS ON ANGER AND CUSTARD PIE were produced in 1993 and 1994, respectively. I was a participating artist in the Artist Diversity Residency Program at the University of Nebraska from 1998 through 2003. My solo play SCHOOLS!, a story about home protest school during the Civil Rights Movement, premiered at the Afro Solo Festival in San Francisco in 1997, and since then has toured theatre, schools and other venues. My latest show, JUMP is a three-act solo play which is an autobiographical account of mental illness, beginning with childhood depression, and climaxing in a late-adolescent psychotic break. JUMP has been performed for mental health care consumers and providers as well as in conventional theater settings. I am available to lead workshops for laypersons, professionals and special interest groups. |
